Literature Text

(Reader, first person)

I yawned as I woke from my slumber. I was still a bit tired from the events of the previous night. I could also swear that I dreamed about Loki. I had spent most of the rest of the ball with him, after all. I didn't even have the chance to say goodbye to my friends because they left long before me. Feeling bad, I checked my cellphone to see an onslaught of text messages from one of the girls, Linda. She was one of the more girly ones.

'Who was that guy you were with last night?'

'You were dancing with him for hours!'

'He looks WAY older than us, but he's so handsome!'

'Introduce me!'

'Are you ignoring me?'

‘Ooh, you didn’t go home with him, did you?’

'(Yooouuurrrr nnnaaaaammmeeee)'

'Fine. See you at the Christmas performance, beotch.'

I sighed and shook my head. She was utterly ridiculous. I texted back.

'He's just some man named Loki. I didn't catch his age, and I will probably never see him again. He said he was only visiting, anyhow, so you won't get an introduction. Btw, sorry for not answering, there's somethine I like to do. It's called SLEEP.'

I sent it and then looked at the one last text on my phone, from Kate. She only texted me once.

'Hey, (your name), I don't know what went on last night, but I'm assuming you're tired. Mind if we talk when you wake up?'

I couldn't help but smile. She was always understanding. I didn't even hesitate calling her. “Hey, Kate, good morning. I got your text,” was what I started with.

“Morning (your name). Mind if I go right into last night?”

“Sure, what exactly is it that you want to know?”

“Oh, I don’t know, maybe the name of that stranger who you were with all night at the ball? He looked so handsome,  not to mention actually interested in you.”

“And what’s that supposed to mean, ‘actually interested’ in me?”

“Only that he looked pretty old. I mean, he certainly wasn’t a high schooler, was he?”

“Oh, well, I suppose not. I mean, he didn’t really say. All I know is what he told me. That his name is Loki Odinson and he visited because he heard the ball was beautiful.” I decided to leave out the tidbit that he also heard the women were beautiful, lest Kate get the wrong idea.

“Wait, did you say ‘Loki Odinson’?!” Kate asked, seeming very alarmed.

“Y-yeah…” I said, a bit taken aback at her change in tone. “What, is there something wrong with that?”

“I’m coming over. Don’t go anywhere!” With that, Kate hung up.

‘What was that all about?’ I wondered, looking at my phone before setting it down. I sighed and went downstairs to grab some tea. Screw changing, I was comfy in my flannel pajamas.

*~*

When Kate got here, she didn’t say anything. She had her school bag, which shocked me, because we didn’t get any homework over break. I handed her a cup of tea and we went up to my bedroom. After she set the tea cup down, she immediately opened her bag.

“Kate, what’s this all abo-“

“Shh!”

I raised an eyebrow, feeling mildly offended at being cut off so abruptly. Still, I sat on my bed, leaning against the headboard, and waited for her to say something. Kate took out a huge book from her bag and started flipping through the pages. I was beginning to get impatient. What could it be now, that she had to come over.

Before I had the chance to voice my question, she dropped the book open on my lap. I almost spilled my tea and figured it best to sit the cup on my bedside table before looking at the book. When I looked down, I saw a header that read: ‘Loki, God of Mischief.’ I looked at the cover of the book and saw that it was all about Norse Mythology. I sighed. “Kate, what is this about?”

“Loki, the God of Mischief! He’s the friend of Odin! Your Loki’s ‘surname’ is Odinson!”

“So? Maybe his parents had a weird sense of humour.”

“No, (your name). I think you were-“

“What, dancing with a god?”

“No, of course not! This book is full of myths! No, (your name), I think the man you were dancing with is a nutjob and that you should stay away from him.” She said it so sternly that I would have thought she was my mother.

I laughed. “Kate, I think you’re the one who’s crazy here. He was perfectly civil and acted like a normal human…well…he was a bit prideful, but besides that, he acted normal.” I looked at her skeptical expression and sighed. “Whether he’s crazy or not, I’m probably never going to see him again.” I honestly felt sad to admit it. I had said it more than once now and it was very upsetting. He was such a gentleman, and so handsome, and there was a look of mischief to his expressions…’Woah, mischievious?’

Kate shrugged. “Just be careful.”

“When am I not?”

“Well, there was that incident where you stormed out of the house with not even a jacket in the freezing cold.”

“Oh, let it go!” I yelled playfully.

“Fine, but get dressed.”

“Why?”

“We’re going to the café. A couple of other girls will be there and I already said you’re coming.”

I didn’t argue. We did that to each other all the time. I sighed and got dressed in a sweater and jeans and grabbed my coat before we left.

*~*

I had been at the café with the others for a while now, and I allowed Kate to explain everything (leaving out the mythology part. I was lucky she’s the only girl in our circle of friends that reads mythology). Still, I was getting pretty bored. I looked around and then something outside caught my attention. It was like snow had fallen off a building and right on top of a couple of men that were lounging outside for a smoke break. Since we were right by the window, I leaned over Kate and looked at the top of the building that the snow fell from. My jaw dropped when I saw that it was Loki, grinning down at the angry men. He turned his gaze to me and his grin became just a smirk. I closed my gaping mouth and sat properly again, blushing a little bit.

“(your name)? What just happened? What did you see?” Linda asked. Kate just shook her head. She had seen the same thing that I saw, and I knew that she knew what was going through my head, too. A few seconds after, the café door opened with a ding! and I turned to see Loki had walked in. My eyes went wide. How did he get down here so fast?! That wasn’t humanly possible! I looked at Kate, and her face was of utter shock as well.

“How did he get here so fast?” I whispered to Kate. I wanted to make sure the other girls didn’t hear because they had no idea what we had discussed earlier.

“I don’t know, but I’m starting to regret looking his name up, because my crazy theory is starting to look false.”

“Could he have jumped?”

“No human could survive that, and there’s nothing outside that he could have held on to! No, either he has inhuman speed, or he can somehow jump from buildings and survive, which both are very unlikely.”

“Well, if you think about it, there are people like Captain America out there.”

“We don’t know if he really exists or not! To us, he’s just a story.” Kate actually sounded exasperated with me. I wasn’t surprised. I mean, the thought of a mythological god existing…it was too much, and even if he was a god, why would a god talk to me? Let alone dance with me! That was an absolutely ridiculous idea!

He went to the counter and ordered something before making eye contact with me again, silently daring me to follow. He walked out, without paying I might add, and the counter boy hardly noticed. When he finally did notice, I jumped up and paid for him before grabbing my coat and leaving, Kate yelling "(your name) wait!" I ignored her and followed Loki. It probably looked strange to others, me following a few yards behind him as he walked. I followed until he stopped several blocks away in a much less populated area. We were near the graveyard, which set me on edge from watching a bit too much Doctor Who, but I ignored it because I wanted to know what Loki wanted me to follow for. I know he wanted me to follow him. He finally opened his mouth to speak.

"Do you have any idea who I am?"
Finally, I have chapter two finished!

Maybe you'll get some answers?

(Note: I do not own Loki [sadly]. His character belongs to MARVEL)

And yes, I made a Doctor Who reference. It's too good to not reference.
